Verve - A South Texas Jazz Quintet

Verve is a South Texas jazz quintet of music educators and working professionals who treat the bandstand like a conversation: tight, generous, and ready to swing.

Eddie De La Garza on piano, Joe Chapa on tenor saxophone, Daniel Garcia on trumpet, Rene Peynado on drums, and Freddy De La Garza on bass bring years of classroom and stage experience to every set. That mix shows. Charts stay clear, time stays deep, and solos have room to breathe. The group is a regular presence at the Texas Jazz Festival in Corpus Christi, where they have become part of the region’s live-jazz circuit.

The book moves easily between jazz standards and new originals. Expect familiar changes recast with fresh voicings, plus original tunes written to leave space for real improvising—horn lines that talk back, a rhythm section that locks and lifts, piano that both supports and leads.

Verve will perform new and standard tunes in an afternoon built for listening and grooving. Come for the melody, stay for the improvisation. It will be a warm, unhurried set from five players who know how to make a room feel like a session.
