Jesus Trey Tamez
Born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley, Jesus Trey Tamez is an undergraduate student musician and pianist currently studying at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg. He began his musical journey as a self-taught pianist in high school. Originally pursuing a career in engineering, Trey inevitably chose to devote himself to music, his true passion. Currently working on his bachelor’s degree in music education with concentration in piano, he also wants to become a teacher, as well as a composer, to represent not just the state of Texas, but the Rio Grande Valley in the realm of music.
Over the next year and a half, Trey continues to hone his skills and knowledge as a performer. His repertoire expands the more he dedicates his time and effort to the art of playing the piano. And by taking command of the keys, he tells the wordless, yet descriptive stories of composers from both all over the world and across the span of centuries.
Trey has also participated in masterclasses, which included coaching with Dr. Bradley Bolen from Baylor University and Dr. Alessandra Feris from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. He is actively preparing for UTRGV’s annual Concerto and Aria Competition which will take place in Fall 2026. He has also been recently accepted into the Colorado International Piano Academy and Festival, which is hosted by the University of Northern Colorado, and is also preparing for the CIPAF International Competition.
Trey Jesus Tamez is a student of Dr. Shoko Kinsella, currently a sophomore at the School of Music, UTRGV.
