The Zarzuela is a musical genre derived from opera, but sung exclusively in Spanish as it was first developed in Spain and later spread to all Spanish-speaking countries, primarily in Mexico.

Eleven students from the UTRGV Opera Workshop ensemble will be performing one of the most famous Zarzuelas, “Luisa Fernanda” by Federico Moreno Torroba, in the first half. In the second half, they will sing arias and duets from Zarzuelas of different countries.
